MANURE MANAGEMENT PITS Agricultural
Nutrient Management (ANM) Program The Agricultural Nutrient
Management (ANM) Grant Program seeks to provide financial,
educational and technical assistance for livestock and agricultural
land operations and related organizations with implementing Best
Management Practices and such other measures necessary to prevent or
mitigate water pollution. Applicants for ANM grants may apply for
cost assistance of up to $2,500 per year. There is no match
required, however, in-kind services such as labor provided by the
applicant will enhance the application. The majority of the funding
will be used for on-farm projects that address the program
objectives. Funding may also be utilized by organizations for
educational projects
This
program will provide assistance to horse owners to construct manure
management pits and other projects designed to minimize the impact
that horses have on water sources. This can include such
projects as fencing off ponds and streams and building bridges to
cross brooks etc. Richard Uncles, Director of this
Department spoke to the DTR club about the program and we had a
chance to view Jane Mallinson’s manure management pit. If you
are interested in making use of this program, go to
http://agriculture.nh.gov/programs/index.htm And go to the
bottom of the page for instructions. You can get detailed
site plans for the pit at
